Weekly sketch challenge "Sketch Freitag" 14.08.15. @danipeuss - my layout for sketch Nr. 2.

I've managed to finish another layout for the sketch challenge at www.danipeuss.de last week. This was sketch Nr. 2:

Now, I still have no idea how my Canon Selphy printer works exactly; I find the formats quite limited, but I knew 3x4" it can do :). Again, not a format I use, so I thought it was a good opportunity to try!

I decided to use the same photo in color and black&white simply because I didn't have 2 photos with the same topic that I could use this format for...

Finally I was able to use the beautiful Shine On paper from Simple Stories I bought ages ago, but didn't quite have photos I found fitting. I wanted this layout to kind of look like my son was lying in the sand at the beach under the sun, if that makes sense. So sun in the background is given, then for the first layer of background I tried to find something that resembles sand, at least the color of it. Maybe it's not so visible in this picture...Of course I wanted to add cut files and remembered that my favourite shop TheCutShoppe had some beach themed files. So I quickly bought them :). I've used the waves and the sun too. Since one sun is never enough, I've cut 3 in different sizes! :) I then painted the suns and the waves with different shades of yellow and blue watercolor. I've layered the waves in a way that they give some texture to the LO (they are not glued down everywhere) and this also meant I was able to stick my photos behind them.

I wanted to add some contrast to the colors so I've sprayed on some black ink, used some black flair buttons and alpha thickers. I did a little stitching under the buttons to add a bit more interest to them. Last but not least I've added hand written journaling which I hardly ever do because I don't like my hand writing...I bet most of us don't like our own hand writing, right? Oh you know whose hand writing I absolutely adore?! Amy Tangerine! Look at these! So unbelievably gorgeous! Me, envious! :)

Weekly sketch challenge "Sketch Freitag" 14.08.15. @danipeuss - my layout for sketch Nr. 3.

So here I am, again, with a new layout! This time for the weekly challenge +danipeuss. A few weeks ago I had no idea what sketches were and now I just love them! They give me an opportunity to try my hands at layouts I would not normally go for.

This one for instance, has 3 pictures in bigger sizes which I would rarely use anymore. Well I did replace one picture by some patterned paper in the end, but mainly because I only had two pictures for this topic! :)

Here is the sketch, I find it really cool and inspiring!

And this is the layout I came up with. I swear I tried to stay away from cut files but I just could NOT, haha! So the first layer in the background I created using texture paste, which I then painted with some lime green Dylusions paint. Seriously, lime green, teal and turquoise have been my favourite colors for years. Can't have enough of them! And this paint, my goodness, it's gorgeous. Of course I had to buy the matching Dylusions spray ink too :D. Which is what I used on TheCutShoppe cut file that is the second layer in this design. Such an amazing vibrant color, don't you think?

I've added some different fussy cut/torn papers as background for my photos. Now that I buy 6x6" pads too, I am more confident in tearing up my papers! I never had the heart to tear up my beautiful 12x12" papers...

Like I said, I've replaced one photo by some patterned paper. I've used another cut file for this from TheCutShoppe and blew it up to about the same 4x4" size as was required by the sketch. The letters that were cut out were so cute, I just couldn't throw them away! So I fussy cut some white background for them and used them as my title.

I didn't have an awful lot of embellishments in these colors so I've spray painted some wood veneers with the same lime green ink I've used earlier. I love wood veneers! So versatile!

Of course, as always, I HAD TO use some flair buttons from A Flair For Buttons and lucky for me black buttons were great with this layout, because I've run out of colored ones! New delivery is on its way though :).

I hope you like how the layout turned out! x

My Scraps & More Sketch #111 - (2) In the middle of summer (W środku lata)

For the second layout I knew I wanted to use my Cameo sketch pen for the background. I just wrote "Leave a little sparkle whereever you go" several times (not that you can now tell :D). I liked how it turned out, even if I was going to cover up most of it.

For color scheme I chose a combination of pink, purple and blue to kind of resemble the colors of the little girl's pretty butterfly dress. I didn't have much in these colors, so I created a few embellishments myself and I paired these bright colors with a pale grey. I'm not sure if you can tell by these pictures that the background paper I chose has wide pale grey and white stripes.

I've recently purchased the stamp set Shine On from Kaisercraft which I absolutely adore and it's full of circle stamps (my favourite shape!). It has different size circles so it was perfect for this layout. I've stamped lots of circles in 3 different colors on textured cardstock and embossed them. Unfortunately most of my ink pads are distress inks, so the text doesn't come out so clearly (except for the pink which is archival ink I believe), but I like the distressed look anyway. For the blue I've used the new Blueprint Sketch distress ink from Tim Holtz and I am so in love with it! So much so that I also painted the big white canvas alpha thickers with the same color Distress Spray stain. The first row of circles (the 4 big ones) I put on pop dots to give them some dimension.

I've layered some different color cardstock under one of the photos to add interest. Then I've added some embellishments, ink drops, journaling, et voilà! I hope you like! x

My Scraps & More Sketch #111 - (1) Balloon Girl

When I saw the new sketch on the My Scraps and More blog I got so excited I made two layouts right away :). I love this sketch, I can think of so many interpretations!

This past weekend I was working on some special layouts. A colleague of mine asked me to make a couple for her so she can give them to her grandkids when they come this week. I was so excited because they are two beautiful little girls! I only have a son so I only ever get to do boys' layouts! Finally I can use pink yey! Happiness. I really enjoyed this project! Also, the photos I received were absolutely gorgeous. Just when I was stuck with ideas as to what layouts to choose (too many on my mind!) I saw the sketch posted on MSAM and I loved it so much! Right on time!

I have a huge stash of flowers for someone that doesn't really use flowers on layouts, because they are just a bit too girly. I did use some on one layout earlier but my son was only 3 at the time the photo was taken, so flowers were still acceptable :). I pretty much only have green/blue/brown flowers though! So now that I could have gone for a pink layout what do I go for? That's right, blue! But that's OK because in this very picture the little girl is holding blue balloons...

For the background I used the packaging technique I've seen the amazing Missy Whidden do so many times. I actually was planning to have a 4cm wide white strip on either side but I was not able to control the paint on the right side as much as I wanted :). I don't know if this happens to you but I only noticed I didn't like the outcome after the whole layout was ready and I saw the photo...So after thinking for awhile I decided to simply remove the sequins, cut off the sides and reassemble all of it on a backgorund paper. It's one of my favourite papers, lime green and white stripes. I'm not sure why but the photos here on my laptop have a totally different color than on my phone and in reality :(. They are so vibrant in real! Then I've added some machine stitching to add some interest. For the title I've used some white canvas thicker alphas that I've embossed so it fits my color scheme! Oh, and I had to do the journaling in Polish because they are Polish...A language I do not speak, so I can only hope I have not misspelt anything :). Hope you like how it all turned out. Thanks for checking! x
