School is out for summer - DT layout for The Cut Shoppe

Hey there scrappy friends,
Long time no hear! I've been busy lately and had no time to blog at all... Today I am back with a layout for The Cut Shoppe.

Well I started working on this layout back in July...With no idea in my head, I just wanted to stitch something at the time (I still have 3 half ready stitched backgrounds that I started at the same time, ha!). Then my eardrums burst and I spent a week in bed, I was in no mood to scrap at all. I only managed about 3 letters each day. It just feels like this is the most time I ever spent on a layout, it just didn't want to come together!

I used the Brush Up Alpha cut file for my letters and tilted them at the same angle as the wood plank design on my patterned paper (which is from the Pink Paislee / Paige Evans Take Me Away collection). I then used the perforate setting on my Cameo, instead of normal cut. I mostly sketch the design on my paper and then poke the holes myself because I prefer the look afterwards but this time I didn't have time so I simplified a little :).

Then I took a few different shades of teal and olive embroidery floss and used a different one on each letter. I tried to fill some of the letters with different patterns - I still can't decide if I like this, but I'm leaning towards no...So I left the last word, Summer, empty.

I layered some patterned papers from the Pink Paislee 7 Paige Evans Fancy Free collection behind my photos and also added a tag for my journaling. At this point my layout looked very monotonous, with only different shades of one color. I drew inspiration from the bright yellow "Fantastic" chipboard piece and added some more pops of yellow in the form of some pieces of Freckled Fawn washi tape.

A couple more embellishments and I was done. It looks like a very simple layout, but I swear I never spent so much time on any layout before ha!
I will be back with a new layout for The Cut Shoppe in a couple of days, so watch this space! X

Explore - DT layout for The Cut Shoppe

Hi there scrappy friends,

I'm back with a new layout for The Cut Shoppe!

By now you probably will not be surprised that I chose a circle cut file set, again :). I'm not sure why I am so drawn to circles but it's what it is! This new set, Strings Attached, is kind of awesome, don't you think?! Circles and string art in one, you know what I mean?

I decided to use one of the latest releases for this layout, Cool Kid from Crate Paper. Obviously I love this collection! It's the right amount of cool and adorable in one and I just love the bright colors. It seems that Crate Paper can do nothing wrong!

I picked a grey star print paper for the background, so that the bright color papers I chose for backing my cut files just pop. I created the design in my Silhouette Studio first, drew some circles in different sizes and scattered them around my page. I added my string circles just so I see the whole design together. I then I removed these and left only my simple circles and cut those from the grey paper. Then I backed them with some scraps. The string circles I cut from white card stock and I backed these too with several different color papers. The biggest one I first backed with my photo, then after trimming it, I also added patterned paper behind it. I machine stitched around all these with black thread. I popped some of my string circles on foam for some variation. I scattered some embellies around the page, some puffy stickers, stickers, chipboard stickers and phrase stickers. Oh and that cute silver star that I have no idea what it is made of ha!

As a final step I added my journaling, date and the obligatory ink splatters! I hope you like how this turned out! Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a great day X
