Rainbow flower cards - DT project for WOW! embossing powder

Hey crafty friends,

This month's theme at WOW! embossing powder is "rainbows". My fave! I love rainbows, they make me happy.

I generally don't use a lot of different embossing powders at the same time because I don't like warping. Plus the more times I emboss the same paper, the more stray powder I have, no matter what I do. So I decided to challenge myself to use several powders on my card and I'm glad I did.

Here's what I used for today's cards:

  • WOW! Embossing Pad
  • WOW! Primary Ebony Regular embossing powder
  • WOW! Metalline Perfect Plum Regular embossing powder
  • WOW! Primary Parma Violet Regular embossing powder
  • WOW! Primary Blue Tang Regular embossing powder
  • WOW! Primary Apple Red Regular embossing powder
  • WOW! Primary Bird of Paradise Regular embossing powder

I chose the Simple Flowers set from Altenew for these cards. It was the very first set from Altenew that I bought and to this day never used! It was love at first sight but I wasn't much of a card maker when I bought it ha!

I started stamping the flowers, one at a time, and embossed them in the above mentioned colors. See the warping of the paper? This is why I normally avoid embossing in different colors. I know not everyone is bothered by warping but I am, and this is why I also don't often do mixed media scrapbook pages.

I then embossed my sentiment in black too. Since I don't have yellow and the right shade of green embossing powders, I added these details with color inks from Altenew.

What to do with the warping...Then I had a thought. Why not send the card panel through my Cuttlebug. And while I was at it, why not add some dry embossing? So I picked a polka dot embossing folder and embossed the panel.

This helped so much with the warping! I will say that the embossing got a bit destroyed but I like the distressed kind of look!

I created an A2 size top folding (but landscape orientation) card base and adhered an A2 size color cardstock piece on top of it (on the other card I used patterned paper). I splattered some black ink on the card for contrast and done!

Not my typical cards since I prefer more layers and dimension but I do like the simplicity of these.

That's it for today! I hope I could inspire you in some way!

Happy crafting!
