In the spotlight: Spellbinders Small and Large Die of the Month kits - October 2020

Hi there crafty peeps,

It's that time again! The Spellbinders October Club Kits are here! I'm a little late for the party this month but better late than never, am I right?! I love love love this month's kits, I hope you will too!

As a reminder, Spellbinders have several monthly kits, which are really great! You can subscribe to:

You can find all necessary information about these kits here.

Let's start with the Small Die kit!

I didn't use each die from this set to make these cards - you could actually create a frame design that fits a standard A2 size card, but I decided to just go with a smaller, square shape notecard. The card base is 4.5x4.5".

I die cut each corner piece 3 times then layered them up and glued them together, so I have dimensional pieces. For this card, I die cut the leaves from white card stock and popped them up using foam adhesive.
Not all of them, just the bigger pieces. I cut strips from a few different colored card stocks and adhered them to my card base. I glued dow the white die cuts too.

You'll get 3 sentiments with this die kit: Thankful, Grateful and Blessed. For this card, I die cut Thankful from color card stock and 3 times from white card stock. I layered them all together. I then noticed that the sentiment is not gong to fit into the space in the middle, but it was not long enough for me to glue it on top of the white leaves in a way that it would be secure. After much thinking I finally realised what I should do! I die cut the sentiment 6 more times and trimmed off the beginning and end, so basically I just kept "ankfu" - I had to trim off a part of the "f" and I could have kept "h" but all in all it worked out well. The sentiment now sits perfectly in the middle. To finish off this card, I added some twine bow.

My second card is mostly white - white base, white die cuts (same as on the previous card, 3 layers of die cuts glued together) . Except, I added leaves in most of the colors I used on my other cards too, for the strips. Again, I added foam adhesive to the bigger leaves to add some dimension and interest.

I thought gold paint splatters would fit the fall colors well, so I added some. Last but not least, I tied a twine bow at the top.

Next up is the Large Die kit! It's a door people!!! I was so excited about this set because the possibilities seem endless, you can have any kind of colored door, different wreaths for different seasons etc etc. Recently, I saw the most gorgeous front door and wreath on Jen Hadfield's Instagram. Which totally inspired my first card, especially my color choices.

Technically the door opens - but not on my card. I didn't need this feature, so I just glued it down. I die cut each piece from color card stock as well as heavy weight white card stock, because I like my die cuts to be sturdy. I can then add foam adhesive to them without having to worry how everything would hold up. I have foam adhesive behind the envelope/mail box, the door knob, the columns and that top bit I forget the name of.

You can't see but I put vellum behind the window on the door. Now that I think about it, I could have turned this into a shaker card! I bet it would have been cute.

For my second card, I wanted something more festive for the holidays. So I went with the Jingle All the Way collection from My Mind's Eye. Obviously I had to have a red door! I created this card exactly the same way as the previous one, I just used different papers really. Oh and this time there are no flowers on the wreath.

For the doormat there are two sentiments: Welcome and Wishes, plus there is a scripty Best to go with Wishes like you see on this card.

I added a few gold accents to this card so that it's more festive!

There you have it, the Spellbinders October Small and Large Die kits! What do you guys think? They are really great or?!

Thanks for stopping by today! Have a wonderful day!
